Setting up a CI server a daunting task at first

September 22, 2008

Now I’ve been wanting to setup a Continous Integration server for my project for a long time.  My co-worker was helping me out with it, but then he moved to a different company.  I sort of gave up on it at the time mainly because I was the only one working on the code.  But thought I’d give it another shot this last weekend when I was in training.

Passing LINQ thru the wire . .a bad idea

September 22, 2008

I was in .NET training this week.  It was taught by DevelopMentor and as usual the training was really good.  It’s my second class with them and they have really knowledgeable instructors.

An interesting question was brought up when we were learning about LINQ.  A few students were really disappointed in the fact that you weren’t able to pass LINQ thru across the wire to the webserver, to have the ORM setup and run the query for you.  Sounds like a decent idea, the client constructs the LINQ and allows the server to run it, returning an object back.  You have one generic function on the server that runs your LINQ.

Ain’t too proud to buy an Index Fund – Part I

It’s pretty gratifying to pick a stock that’s a three bagger.  Peter Lynch used the term “bagger” to say that a stock has multiplied in value. ie three bagger stock is one that tripled in value.  Note: If you looked up the term three bagger in Urban Dictionary it is a different definition, but pretty funny.

He’s one of the few institutional investor that has outperformed the market over a long period of time, Warren Buffett being the other notable one.  However, the number of investors that can outperform the market in the long run is few and far between.

I saw this the other day and thought it was pretty cool.  I wonder where these guys practice and get good enough at it.

Got $1? You can buy a house in Detroit.

September 6, 2008

I recently read an article on the Detroit News about a house sold for $1 by Detroit Metro airport.  I knew the housing market in Michigan was bad, but that is quite ridiculous.  Actually, considering the area, I might have saved that $1, go over to Motor City Casino and try my luck there.
